A rally cry from birders, photographers and wildlife guides. Find out why we all need to leave capercaillie in peace this spring.
Capercaillie need our help
There are only 542 capercaillie left in the UK.
Over 85% of those birds live in a handful of forests in the Cairngorms National Park.
They are protected under UK law. This makes it a criminal offence to disturb them whilst they are breeding.
Disturbing capercaillie is one of the pressures that is pushing them closer to extinction and causes the birds unnecessary stress.
Do not go looking for capercaillie from March to August.
Capercaillie need all our help to survive and you risk being arrested for criminal activity.
